4 What were the arrangements for the members of the band to arrive &
leave the concert area and what was the South Yorkshire Police
involvement in this journey?

Your request will now be considered and you will receive a response within
the statutory timescale of 20 working days as defined by the Act, subject
to the information not being exempt or containing a reference to a third
party. In some circumstances South Yorkshire Police may be unable to
achieve this deadline. If this is likely you will be informed and given a
revised time-scale at the earliest opportunity

There may be a fee payable for the retrieval, collation and provision of
the information you request. If this is the case you will be informed and
the 20 working day timescale will be suspended until we receive payment
from you. If you choose not to make a payment then your request will
remain unanswered.

leave the concert area and what was the South Yorkshire Police

RESPONSE

1 No police officers were directly involved in providing a
security and a crowd control presence at the recent U2 concert held in
Sheffield. Police officers were employed as part of a public safety
operation, with crowd control and security being administered by the event
organisers. Staff employed at the stadium directly to support the safety
operation totalled 49.

2 7 special constables and 13 Police Community Support Officers
were employed during this event.

3 The total cost to the event organiser for the use of police
officers at this event was: **18257.29 (incl VAT). The cost to South
Yorkshire Police was **13156.79

4 Members of the band were escorted by police motorcyclists to
and from their airport. The journey to the stadium was time critical to
coincide with the start time of the event and also to ensure the safety or
the motorcade and the public.
