Dear Mr Butcher,
Reference number: FOI/COR/09/09/1546
On 16th September 2009 we received the following request for information
from you:
"Please could you inform me how much money was spent by the County
Council a)on creating the 'county of opportunity' slogan on road
signs, b)whether any money was paid to consultants to create that
slogan, if so how much and to who, c) how much was spent changing

County of Opportunity, and, d) when this slogan was first used."
Your request for information has been considered under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000. I can confirm that Hertfordshire County Council does
hold the information you have requested and can respond as follows:
Please could you inform me how much money was spent by the County Council:
a) On creating the County of Opportunity slogan on road signs:
The slogan was developed as part of the Council's Corporate Plan, 2009-12.
The cost of work to ensure the proposed design for the wording complied
with The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions, 2002, and to
produce a standard drawing to allow purchasing, equates to around
*100-150.
b) Whether any money was paid to consultants to create that slogan, if so
how much and to who:
No consultants were used.
c) How much was spent changing road signs at the county borders to read
Welcome to Hertfordshire, County of Opportunity:
The existing County Boundary signs are being replaced as part of routine
maintenance operations. The cost of replacing the signs is shown in the
table below:
It should be noted that the pricing structure for the current Maintenance
Contract is based on the area of the sign and not the complexity of design
on the face of the sign; therefore there is no additional cost for the
inclusion of the County of Opportunity slogan.
d) When this slogan was first used:
The slogan was first used in the Council's Corporate Plan 2009-12.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, quoting
