Dear Sir or Madam
Thank you for your email dated 10 November 2008 regarding the above.
The information you requested regarding the Sharrow Vale permit parking
scheme is as follows:
Please note that the Council's financial year operates from 1 April to 31
March. The costs detailed below which are marked with an asterisk (*) have
been calculated from the full year costs for the year ending 31 March
2008. All other costs have been calculated by using current year costs.
The costs of operating the scheme are as follows:
Operational Enforcement £133,448
Permit Administration £35,244
PCN Processing £40,360
Supervision & Management £60,774
Maintenance* £51,088
Premises* £9,610
Transport* £10,250
Supplies & Services* £35,545
Central & Departmental Support* £31,947
Total Expenditure £418,266
Pay & Display Income (On Street) £251,550
Pay & Display Income (Off Street) £4,751
Permit Income £100,293
Penalty Charge Income £231,169
Total Income £587,763
The breakdown of income from Residents, Businesses and Visitor Permits is
not accounted for separately and therefore this information is not
available.
The above income figures do not allow for the costs of establishing the
scheme.
It is not possible to provide an answer to your question regarding "the
estimate of the overall monetary cost or benefit to residents, businesses
and commuters in the zone," as there is no established mechanism to
calculate such figures.
I hope this information is useful.
Regards

Can you tell me what PCN stands for in the costs?
Thanks.

And finally - does 'Permit Income' include the day permits as well as the annual ones?
Thanks.

If you want to communicate with the Council, it's probably best to use the "Reply to this message link" rather than leaving an annotation since annotations aren't sent to the Council.

Re: fines income. I understand the fine is £30, so how come the income is not a multiple of 30?

It's a shame you can't give figures for residential and business permits separately though - I'd have thought it's be quite easy to work out if you knew how many had been issued - or are there lots of different rates too?
