Dear Rebecca,

Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request concerning money
spent on agency staff and consultants over the past five years. I can
confirm that the Council does hold most of the information you are
seeking.

The answers to your questions (below) are on the attached spreadsheet,
although I regret to say that we have only been able to go back four years
and not the five years you've requested.

Please can you tell me how much your council has spent on agency staff,
per year, over the past five years?

And how much has your council spent on consultants, per year, over the
past five years?

You will appreciate that it has taken some time to pull this information
together and you will also note that as yet, our response is incomplete.

However, we have taken the decision to send you the information we already
have, in order to meet our original deadline and I hope you will allow us
a little extra time (as indicated on the spreadsheet) to get the rest of
the information to you. We will therefore be in touch with you again, in
due course.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your

Dear Rebecca,

Please find attached the updated spreadsheet with the two directorate
figures that were missing in answer to this FOI.

I have been asked to reiterate that the figure for "Agency" includes
Somerset Staffing and it should be taken into account that this figure
will include coverage of permanent posts that we are unable to recruit
into at present and therefore these costs are not all additional to the
current budget allocation for staff.
