Dear Rhondda Cynon Taff Council,
Re:Contaminated Land
Freedom of information Request Made by Mr Brook-Thomas, under the
Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Under the above Act I wish to know precisely how many areas within
the Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council(RCTCBC)
administrative jurisdiction are designated Contaminated Land and
what procedures have been implemented for the classification and
management of such sites.
Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act (1990)into introduced
the statutory regime for the identification and remediation of
contaminated land with the specific aim of addressing the problem
of historical land contamination. Under the provisions laid out by
Part IIA, the authority is required to establish a strategy for the
identification of contaminated land and implemented procedures for
the classification of sites exhibiting a ‘potential’ to cause
significant harm.
Yours Sincerely David Brook-Thomas MSc, BA, Dip Ed Law (Hons)

Dear Mr Brook-Thomas
Further to your request for information please find the Authority's response below:-
In respect of the classification and management of contaminated land sites, the Council published its Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy in January 2004. This was reviewed in December 2008 and can be accessed by visiting the Council’s website via the following link:-
http://www.rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk/en/...
To date one piece of land in the Borough has been determined as contaminated land and this has also been designated as a special site.
Kind regards
