Constitution, functions and costs

Mr. Imrie made this Freedom of Information request to Standing Dental Advisory Committee

The request was successful.

From: Mr. Imrie

15 April 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

As the Standing Dental Advisory Committee appears from its website
at http://www.advisorybodies.doh.gov.uk/sda... to have had
no activity since 2004, I would be grateful if you answered the
following questions:

1. How many members are on the committee?

2. How many times has the committee met in each of the last 5
years?

3. How many reports or other letters of advice has the committee
delivered to the Secretary of State in each of the last 5 years?

4. What has been the cost to the public purse of this committee in
each of the last 5 years?

Yours faithfully,

Mr. Imrie

Of course, if nothing has happened in 5 years, a dead email address is hardly a surprise!

Standing Dental Advisory Committee

Our ref: DE00000406186

Dear Mr Imrie
Thank you for your email of 16 April, asking under the Freedom of
Information Act for a range of information concerning the Standing Dental
Advisory Committee. I have addressed your questions, below, in the order
in which they appeared.
1. How many members are on the committee?
The committee had eight members. Following a public consultation which
ended in January 2008 a decision was made to abolish the Standing Dental
Advisory Committee. The response to the consultation has been published
on the Department's website and can be found at
[1]http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Consultations/Re...
2. How many times has the committee met in each of the last 5
years?
2004 - 3
2005 - 2
2006 - 2
2007 - 1
3. How many reports or other letters of advice has the committee
delivered to the Secretary of State in each of the last 5 years?
A review of the Dentally Based Specialities and Specialist lists in 2004.
4. What has been the cost to the public purse of this committee in
each of the last 5 years?
Negligible. The Standing Dental Advisory Committee was a statutory non
Departmental Public Body. Members were not paid a fee but reimbursed
reasonable travelling expenses on an ad hoc basis for attendance at
meetings. The committee was serviced by Department of Health staff as
part of their duties of oral health promotion and dental education.
I hope this reply is helpful. If you are dissatisfied with the handling
of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review.
Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date
of receipt of the response to your original letter and should be addressed

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of
Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Standing Dental
Advisory Committee's handling of my FOI request 'Constitution,
functions and costs'.

This is because a response stating that the cost is *negligible* is
too vague. Please state in £ what are the costs.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is
available on the Internet at this address:
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/co...

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Imrie

Negligible is rather vague. It will interesting to see just how negligible the costs actually are.
