Will Parbury made this Freedom of Information request to Greater London Authority

The request was successful.

From: Will Parbury

26 January 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to you to request information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000. In order to assist you with this request, I
am outlining my query as specifically as possible.

Boris Johnson Mayor of London and advisors attended the 2008
Conservative Party conference in Birmingham and claimed expenses
totalling £1955.25

I would like to draw your attention to the article in The London
Paper available on their website "Mayor Boris Johnson in expenses
row after £2,000 of taxpayers' money spent on hotel at Conservative
Party conference"

In this article the Mayor is quoted as saying "I don't believe is
it proscribed by our rules of conduct but if it is proscribed then
I will certainly pay it back."

I would like to know if this money has been repaid?

In your reply please could you include the following information:

A) Name of the person making the repayment.
B) The amount that was repaid.
C) The date the payment was made.

I am interested in any information held by the Greater London
Authority regarding my request. I understand that I do not have to
specify particular files or documents and that it is the
Authority's responsibility to provide the information I require.

I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have
received this request. I look forward to your full response within
the statutory 20 working days.

Thank you in advance for your help with this request.

Yours faithfully,

Will Parbury

Subject: Freedom of Information request - Conservative Party
Conference Expenses

The Mayor would like to thank you for your interest in his work and he is
keen to answer your query as fully as possible. As you will appreciate, he
has received a very large amount of correspondence from Londoners since
the election and it is proving quite challenging to respond as quickly as
we would like.

Please note that non Greater London Authority (GLA) related queries will
be referred to the appropriate functional body for them to reply e.g.
transport related queries will be referred to Transport for London (TfL).

However, the Mayor is committed to responding to all appropriate
correspondence and everything is being done to reply to your query as
quickly as possible.

This is an automated message and therefore does not require any response.

From: Mayor of London
Greater London Authority

5 February 2009

Dear Mr Parbury

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request of 26th January 2009.

You are seeking information as to whether the Mayor, and accompanying staff, are required to reimburse the Greater London Authority (GLA) for the cost of their accommodation (totaling ?1955.25) at the 2008 Conservative Party annual conference.

This money does not have to be re-paid to the GLA. The Chief Executive of the GLA, Leo Boland, confirmed that Boris Johnson was entitled to attend the 2008 Conservative Party annual conference in his capacity as Mayor of London and that there was "clear precedent" for the GLA paying for his accommodation and that of his staff.

If you have any further questions relating to this matter, please contact me, ensuring that you quote the reference at the top of this letter.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah Gibson
Manager, Government and Parliamentary Relations

If you are unhappy with the way the GLA has handled your request, you may complain using the GLA's comments and complaints procedure, available at http://www.london.gov.uk/gla/comments/in... .
