Conflicts of Interests of Lawyers or Solicitors (finance)

Liz R (Account suspended) made this Freedom of Information request to Solicitors Regulation Authority

The request was successful.

From: Liz R (Account suspended)

11 March 2011

Dear Solicitors Regulation Authority,

Please send any recorded information
(if you have any?) regarding the investments/financial interests
allowed (or not) of solicitors, or is there no need for solicitors
to declare a possible conflict of interest (due to investments - an
example I'm worried about would be, a solicitor investing in a
private adoption or care home for children whilst also representing
a local authority against a parent)

If there is no such requirement for such a declaration, who do I
write to in order to ensure this point is considered in your future
codes of practice please?

Thank you

Yours sincerely

Elizabeth R

Dear Ms R

Freedom of Information Request - Our Ref: FOI/BS/559

Thank you for your email dated 11 March 2011 requesting information under
the Law Society Freedom of Information Code of Practice.

You have requested access to the following information:

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is a part of the Law Society but
acts independently in carrying out its regulatory functions. The Law
Society is not covered by the Freedom of Information Act (the FOIA) as it
is not a designated authority, but has adopted its own voluntary Code of
Practice which closely reflects the FOIA (link below).
