Complaints

Trevor R Nunn made this Freedom of Information request to Craven District Council

The request was successful.

From: Trevor R Nunn

3 October 2008

Dear Sir or Madam,

Pre-question clarification: A complaint against a council may
consist purely on an administrative error or it may also include a
potentially criminal act and/or infringements of a complainants
civil rights (legal and/or human rights).

Therefore, I would like the following information, over the last 12
months, as a percentage of total complaints against the council how
many ended up being dealt with by,

1)the Local Government Ombudsman?

2)the Police?

3)Solicitors and/or the courts?

Yours faithfully,

Trevor R Nunn

Further to my previous email sent earlier today I think there is another
FOI request outstanding from you regarding the Local Government
Ombudsman as follows:

"During the last five years how many times has the Local Government
Ombudsman (as a result of investigating a complaint against Craven
District Council) brought to the attention of the Council the fact that
a member of Craven District Council staff had misled them, lied to them
or done anything else to hinder their investigation. If they have what
disciplinary action was taken against the individual(s) concerned by the
Council."

We will endeavor to respond within 20 working days and if we think the
request requires extra time then we will contact you and let you know.

If in the meantime you have any queries regarding this information
request please let me know.

Yours sincerely

Dear Mr Nunn

I refer to previous correspondence regarding your Freedom of Information
request and can let you have the following information.

During the last five years, our records show that there have not been
any times that the Local Government Ombudsman, as a result of
investigation a complaint against this Council, has brought to our
attention that a Council employee has misled them, lied to them or done
anything else to hinder their investigation. Therefore, no disciplinary
action has been taken against any employee for these reasons.

This information is provided on our understanding of your request. If
you are unhappy with the handling of your request or the information
that has been provided, you may write to Craven District Council asking
for an internal review of its decision. Requests for reviews should be
addressed to Gill Cooper, Head of Legal Services, Council Offices,
Granville street, Skipton, BD23 1PS.

If you are still unhappy following an internal review, you may make a
complaint to the Information Commissioner at Wycliffe House, Water Lane,
Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 6AF.

Yours sincerely
