Dear Sir or Madam,
Pre-question clarification: A complaint against a council may
consist purely on an administrative error or it may also include a
potentially criminal act and/or infringements of a complainants
civil rights (legal and/or human rights).
Therefore, I would like the following information, over the last 12
months, as a percentage of total complaints against the council how
many ended up being dealt with by,
1)the Local Government Ombudsman?
2)the Police?
3)Solicitors and/or the courts?
Yours faithfully,
Trevor R Nunn

Dear Mr Nunn,
Thank you for your email.
Many comments, complaints, compliments and requests come into any
service of the council via various means, for example telephone,
feedback forms, emails and letters. Departments and Services respond to
the issue regardless of the mode of contact, but some may log the issue
or request as a complaint and others as a request for service. It is not
possible therefore to provide a meaningful figure for the 'total number
of complaints' nor consequently a percentage.
Total number of complaints to the Local Government Ombudsman regarding
Cheshire County Council from 1.4.07 to 31.3.08 = 59 This is not
necessarily the number that are investigated or upheld.
We do not hold the numbers of complaints dealt with by the Police,
courts and solicitors.
If I can be of any further assistance please let me know.
