Dear City of Edinburgh Council,
Could you please supply a full breakdown of costs from 2005 to date
of all entry fees to competitions where the city has won a prize or
has failed to win a prize - including joining fees and memberships
required to be paid for entry to said competitions/groups.
Could you also include staff costs/time to complete applications.
Further, could you please list, for the same period, all
competitions won by Edinburgh where no application/membership has
been involved.
Yours faithfully,

Dear James McMaster
Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Request for Information
Thank you for your request for information which has been dealt with under
the terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. Your request
for information related to the costs incurred by the council in entering
competitions. I am interpreting your use of the word competition to mean
awards.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with the information requested
regarding the historical costs of entries (inclusive of the staff time
involved) as it is not held by the Council and we have no way of
identifying the specific costs incurred in making entries to relevant
award schemes across the council. Such costs are absorbed into
departmental or project costs, as is the time taken by staff to pull such
award applications together.
Please note that this letter constitutes a formal refusal notice under
section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
The list of awards gained by the council or the city is located on the
council website. As you can see from the list of awards some are granted
by independent organisations such as Conde Nast or the Guardian newspaper,
where no application to be considered for such awards exists. The awards
are made on the basis of survey results. In other cases such as Scotland
in Bloom, awards result from an independent assessment by a panel of
judges. While others are the result of formal applications to award
schemes run by professional bodies such as the Cosla Awards.
I have attached for your information the following data:
o an attachment which indicates those awards that were free / or with
charge in 2010/2009.
o a copy of our master database of awards - going back to 04/05.
o Recent key awards that the Council has achieved are listed on the
Council's website - with hyperlinks to the award websites which would
give some information re charges -
