Compensation paid for footpaths not properly maintained

Laurence Scotford made this Freedom of Information request to East Sussex County Council

The request was successful.

From: Laurence Scotford

9 May 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of
Information Act (2000).

Since 2003/04 to the end of the 2008/09 financial year, please
could you tell me how much compensation you have paid people in
cases where you have accepted liability for not maintaining Public
Footpaths and how many such payments have been made?

For each payment please state the amount paid out, where the
footpath was for which liability was accepted and a summary of the
incident (e.g. broken bridge etc.).

Please note that the question relates to the period in which you
have paid out compensation, not the period in which the incident
took place, so incidents that took place prior to 2003/04 but were
paid out between 2003/04 and 2008/09 inclusive should be included.

Yours faithfully,

Laurence Scotford

Dear Mr Scotford,

FOI Req - 2009/200 - Footpath Compensation

Thank you for your request for information about footpath compensations.
Your request was received on 11 May 2009 and I am dealing with it under
the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

We always aim to respond as quickly as possible, and certainly no later
than 9 June 2009, which is the 20 working day deadline. The deadline is
counted from the first working day we receive it, not the date a letter is
written / posted or an email sent.

In some circumstances a fee may be payable and if that is the case, I will
let you know the likely charges before proceeding.

Please quote the above reference number in any communication regarding
this particular request.

Yours sincerely,
