Dear Rachael
Thank you for your further e-mail.
I am looking into this for you and I have not been able to find your
original e-mail. If you have a copy of it, please could you forward it
to me along with the response from the Somerset County Council Customer
advisor notifying you of your reference number and that we had received
your e-mail.
To aid me in tracking down your request with our FOI officers, please
could you advise me as to which of our social services units you were
enquiring about, was it Adult Social Services or Children's Social
services as your request doesn't clarify which unit you are wanting the
information from.

Hi Rachel,
Please see below our response to your Freedom of Information request.
The number of assessments completed in Somerset in 2008/9 and 2009/10.
Assessments of new clients Eligible for services at time of assessment
2008/9 8163 5936
2009/10 8028 5599
Source: Department of Health RAP returns for 2008/9 & 2009/10 (A section)
Everyone is entitled to a community care assessment, but not everyone will get services even though they may have Fair Access to Care Services (FACS) eligible needs following a financial assessment.
This is the Department of Health definition of an assessment. Clients get assessed once when they first contact the adult social care services. Every subsequent piece of work is a review that can include a comprehensive reassessment.
The number who are eligible for services include those who chose to decline them. In addition a number of these people may have had to fund all or part of the services they subsequently received following the financial assessment carried out by the Financial Assessments and Benefits (FAB) team.
If you feel you request has not been answered in sufficient detail or if you wish to clarify the information given please contact me and I will be happy to address the issues you raise.
If you are dissatisfied with the way in which your request has been dealt with, or the information you have received, you can make a complaint or ask us to review our decision. Please send your complaint to Peter Grogan, Corporate Information Governance Manager, County Hall, Taunton, TA1 4DY or to [email address]
An internal review will then be carried out and we will write to you with the results of our investigation. If you are not content with the outcome of our review, you may then apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision:
