Common Purpose graduates, expenditure and invoices

John Walker made this Freedom of Information request to University of East Anglia

The request was partially successful.

From: John Walker

26 December 2009

Dear University of East Anglia,

Please provide details of:

1. the names and ranks/grades of all employees in your organisation
who are Common Purpose 'graduates'.

2. the total expenditure by your organisation on Common Purpose
courses for each of the years 1997 to date together with a
copy of the invoice for each Common Purpose course paid for by your
organisation.

By 'Common Purpose', I mean the training organisation of that name:
http://www.commonpurpose.org By Common Purpose 'graduate', I refer
to those people who have passed the advanced Common Purpose
courses.

Yours faithfully,

John Walker

Dear Mr Walker

In reference to your FOIA request received 26 December 2009, could you clarify the following points:

- you requested information about employees in our organisation who are Common Purpose graduates. Are you asking for information relating to current employees, or details about those who were employees at the time that they completed a Common Purpose course? If the former, could you confirm that you are not requesting information about those who are now (on the date of your request) no longer employees of the organisation?

- with reference to the information available on the web site you cited (www.commonpurpose.org), could you identify which of the courses listed you regard as being 'advanced' courses? Common Purpose do not use that term to describe their courses.

- you requested information about those who have 'passed' the courses. Could you clarify what you mean by 'pass'. We understand there is no examination or qualification associated with the courses, and those completing the courses receive a certificate of attendance.

Please note that the statutory timescale of 20 working days as defined by the Freedom of Information Act 2000 will be suspended until such time as we receive clarification of your request. Once that is received, the clock will recommence, your request considered, and you will receive the information requested within the statutory timescale, subject to the information not being exempt or containing a reference to a third party. You will be informed of any exemptions or references to third parties.

Yours

Raymond Scott

Dear Scott Raymond Mr (ISD),

1. This is a request about any employee (past or present) of the
UEA who has taken a Common Purpose course paid for by the UEA even
if they are no longer employed by the UEA.

2. By "advanced course", I mean Matrix and Focus, Navigator, 20:20
and Power Dynamic.

3. Instead of "passed", let us say "attended".

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

John Walker
