Common Purpose and breaches of the Seven Principles of Public Life
John Walker made this Freedom of Information request to Committee on Standards in Public Life
The request was partially successful.

19 September 2008
Dear Gloria Durham,
This FOI request refers to emails that I sent to you on August 31
2008, September 7 2008 and September 12 2008 concerning Common
Purpose and breaches of the Seven Principles of Public Life.
I have made extremely serious allegations about breaches of the
Seven Principles of Public Life by those public servants who are
Common Purpose "graduates".
These allegations are detailed here:
http://www.stopcp.com/cpbreachestheseven...
I should be grateful if you could provide me with the following
information:
1. Copies of all correspondence (whether it be by email, letter,
telephone or any other method) that you or any other members of
your department have had either between yourselves or with outside
parties regarding this matter.
2. A copy of the "rules" of the Committee on Standards in Public
Life regarding how you are expected to handle complaints like the
one I sent.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
John Walker

Dear Mr Walker
Thank you for your email of 19 September. I am sorry that you are
dissatisfied with the way in which your complaint was handled.
In your original e-mail you asked for the Committee's views on Common
Purpose and your claims that Common Purpose graduates breach the Seven
Principles of Public Life. The Committee on Standards of Public Life is
not in a position to comment on this, its terms of reference
specifically preclude it from investigating individual cases or specific
allegations of misconduct. I am sorry if this has not been made clear
before now.
I attach details to our standards of service to the public.
Other than our prior responses there has been no further correspondence
on this matter.
I trust that this letter deals with all your outstanding concerns.
Yours sincerely
Matthew Dowding

Dear Matthew Dowding,
You say "I attach details to our standards of service to the
public."
It is not there.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Matthew Dowding,
You say "its terms of reference specifically preclude it from
investigating individual cases or specific
allegations of misconduct".
In that case, perhaps you could suggest who might be interested in
investigating these allegations of misconduct against Common
Purpose.
Yours sincerely,
John Walker

Dear Matthew Dowding,
1. Why does
http://www.public-standards.gov.uk/about...
no longer exist?
2. Where is the equivalent page on your new website?
3. Note: on the menu of the new website, we seem to have a
greengrocer's apostrophe. FAQ's should be FAQ.
Yours sincerely,
John Walker

Committee on Standards in Public Life
21 October 2008
Dear Mr Walker
As explained in my previous email, this not a matter in which the
Committee on Standards in Public Life can help you with.
Those who choose to adopt the tenets of the Seven Principles do so from
choice as the principles are not rules and cannot be enforced by us or
anyone else. They are simply principles.
Yours Sincerely
Matthew Dowding
