The Internal Review of the decision to decline certain information you made in your request dated 9 March 2003 has been completed. The part of the request that was declined was the request for:

“Name all employees/students who have attended a Common Purpose course?”

You made the request for an Internal Review in your email dated 24 April 2009. In response to the request for clarification of the scope of the request for an Internal Review you stated in your email dated 6 May 2009 that the aspect that you wished reviewed was the

“Canterbury Christ Church University reluctance to supply senior members of staff names in connection with common purpose courses.”

In addition, in an email dated 9 April 2009 you commented:

“It is unfortunate that your University does not appear willing to be more transparent in its dealing with the Public; others have clearly been happy to do so.”

The conclusion of the Internal Review is that the information that you requested should be released. This is for the following reasons:

(a) A review of the advice given by the Information Commissioners Office suggests when the personal data is closely connected with person’s work, there is a case for considering the release of the information.

(b) Following up the point in your email dated 9 April 2009, it became clear that other organizations have released analogous information.

(c) Consultation within the University indicated that in the light of the advice of the ICO and the publication by other organizations, the information should be released.

Therefore, the information has been revised to include the names of the members of staff who attended Common Purpose courses. Although in your clarification of the scope of the Internal Review, you specified senior staff, the information released includes all staff members, which was the subject of your original request. Furthermore, the titles of the members of staff have also been included, although this was not specifically requested.

I attach the revised documentation. One is in a Excel spreadsheet format and the other is as a Word document.

Therefore, I trust that all the information that you requested has been released. If there is a need for further clarification on this point, please contact me again so that the matter can be resolved.
