COMMENTS BY COUNCILLOR GLYN JONES REGARDING VICTORIA PIER

Mr Hall made this Freedom of Information request to Colwyn Bay Town Council / Cyngor Tref Bae Colwyn

Waiting for an internal review by Colwyn Bay Town Council / Cyngor Tref Bae Colwyn of their handling of this request.

From: Mr Hall

28 July 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have just seen and am rather angered by the comments of
Councillor Glyn Jones, who has been quoted as saying in the North
Wales Pioneer regarding Colwyn Bay Civic Society Plans- Town
councillor Glyn Jones supported the group's ideas. He said: “I
think the piazza is a good idea. It is good that the Civic Society
has taken time to prepare ideas. They will be put forward to the
council. I would like to see the pier demolished, but I think it
will be a debate that will go on for a long time. This comment can
also be seen online at
http://www.northwalespioneer.co.uk/news/....

Firstly, Local Councillors are intended to represent the local
people so could it be please explained either by yourselves or
Councillor Jones why-

1) It would be a good idea to demolish a local landmark?
2) It would be a good idea to demolish a Listed Building?
3) How demolishing it would Improve the area?
4) Councillors are allowed to sugguest Demolishing Private
Individuals Property?
5) Who would Pay for this Demolition, which in the Past had been
quoted at a cost of around £2m, and why that money would not be
better spent on trying to improve the Pier?
5) Is this actual confirmation that the council are now stating
that they wish to do away with Victoria Pier?

Yours faithfully,

Mr Hall

Dear Sir or Madam,

Many thanks for your reply to my request I have recieved which
read-

was

The comments made by the Councillor were of a personal nature and
made to the Press, not at a Council Meeting. Therefore I suggest
that you contact the Councillor directly – the contact details are
on the Conwy C.B.C. website.

I am not happy with this response which is why I am requesting an
Internal Review, I would like these points/questions covered by the
review please.

Firstly- Your original email stated that my enquiry had indeed been
fowarded to Glyn Jones, so why have I not recieved a personal
response from Mr Jones himself?

If it is not possible to discuss the future of the Pier because of
Ownership Problems in the Baylife/Regeneration meetings etc that
you have mentioned previously in mine and other peoples FOI request
respones do you not think it is highly unproffesional for Local
Councillors to discuss the subject with the local press?

If it is not possible to discuss the pier in the above public
meetings etc, then why is it possible for councillors to discuss
the matter in public?

Has the councillor been questioned about his comments internally?

And finally my original question which was not answered was does
the council share the same view on the future of Victoria Pier as
the man in question, Mr Glyn Jones??

Yours faithfully,

Mr Hall

Steve Hunt left an annotation ( 9 October 2009)

I can also confirm that I have not met Mr Hall... if it matters?... what a very odd thing for 'Ted' to say?

Ted - I'm pleased to see you are obviously interested in Piers; with regard to the annotation you left on the request 'Hugo' made about Llandudno Pier, details of my progress with the Information Commissioner and the Court Cases against the Council can be found on the Victoria Pier website at www.victoriapier.com

So I am right then you are you going to pretend he isn't or he hasn't?

Mr Hall left an annotation (10 October 2009)

You can think whatever you like to be honest 'Ted' I cant see it affecting my life too much to be honest. I genuinely have never met Mr Hunt and I would not feel the need to lie even If I had, not that that is any of your concern anyway, even If I had could you please explain how it is relevant towards or how it would effect my FOI request?

Ted left an annotation (11 October 2009)

It might not affect anything. I do not know enough about about foi to say anything. It is just people playing games that I dislike.

Games? Could you please describe how requesting information from my local council who are employed by ME and YOU, that they are legally obliged to give by law, constitutes me playing games please?

The games are not the requests, the games are the pretence that two people are pretending not to know each other.

Mr Hall left an annotation (12 October 2009)

I have never pretended not to know Mr. Hunt, because there is no pretence, it is truth, if it makes you feel any better ill lie and say I do know him. Happy? Why are you so concerned anyway?

Ted left an annotation (13 October 2009)

I'm not concerned as I couldn't care less.

More upset than you and your friend? Surely not.

Ted left an annotation (14 October 2009)

I'm not getting involved nor getting upset, as I said I couldn't care less, just providing some factual balance to the charade.

Steve Hunt left an annotation (14 October 2009)

Come on then 'Ted' - lets see these facts of yours... I can't wait!

nutty (Account suspended) left an annotation (15 October 2009)

My point is, Messrs Hunt and Hall do seem 'awfully upset' themselves.

Ted left an annotation (15 October 2009)

I'd agree, two peas in a pod. Quite how I can actually show the factual information contained in my head on this website is beyond me.

Ted left an annotation (15 October 2009)

I am sure someone will enlighten me soon though? although he might be a bit perplexed at present, bless him.

Ah 'Ted' - so these 'facts' of yours are actually the little voices in your head... and as for 'nutty' - well a quick look at his/her history of comments on this site says all anyone needs to know...

Nice one steve, I like it. The voices in my head no doubt speak a little clearer than the ones in yours, plus the fact I am not playing games by asking daft questions whilst pretending to a genuine interested party. Your pier website tells everyone what they need to know.
