Cllr Angela Harvey - data regarding collision between cyclist / little old ladies
Joanne CLegg made this Freedom of Information request to Westminster City Council
The request was refused by Westminster City Council.
From: Joanne CLegg
9 December 2009
Dear Westminster City Council,
I would like to view the data Cllr Angela Harvey sited in The Times
article: ‘Lycra louts’ to be fined by Westminster Council in new
London cycling crackdown.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/6...
Cllr Harvey, chairman of Westminster's scrutiny committee is quoted
as saying:
“We're always getting little old ladies who are knocked down and
abused by a cyclist, who leave them on the ground as they ride
away."
As a cycling safety campaigner myself, I would like an answer to
the following questions:
1)The number of incidents where "little old ladies" are in
collision with cyclists in Westminster since 2007?
2)And of these results, how many of these collisions involved the
cyclist fleeing the scene of the accident?
3) I would also like to request a clarification of the phrase
"always" in the context of Cllr Harvey’s quote. This to me seems
very vague and in need of clarification in relation to the data I
hope to receive in answer to questions 1 and 2 above.
Yours faithfully,
Joanne Clegg

Yes it is. Also a lot like the ones posted on the LFGSS. Template on seemesaveme.com too. The more of us who request the data the better.

That similar FOI request is mine. I was outraged when i read her comments, and I'm not even a cyclists. I do hope she has the data to back up her statements.
They need to understand that they just can't make throw away comments like this to the press, and then expect the people who pay their wages to agree without seeing evidence. Funnily enough i noticed that in a similar BBC article, her comments were changed to "Pedestrians are being knocked down on pavements by a hardcore element of anti-social cyclists who often shout at the pedestrian before cycling away." I wonder if it was the BBC who changed her comments?

I totally agree. Such an inflammatory statement. I've cycled in London for years now and can honestly say I've never seen an incident like the one Cllr Harvey mentions. I think she should make a retraction if we are not given the data.

Cllr Angela Harvey has previous form, and there is a complaint against her with the Local Government Ombudsman for breaking the Members Code of Conduct. She seems out of control and out of touch. I think she just likes sound bites, and her free parking permit of course.
