Civilian casualties caused by bombing of Afghanistan

A Freedom of Information request to Ministry of Defence by Laurence Rowe

Ministry of Defence did not have the information requested.

Laurence Rowe

4 February 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am looking for an assessment of the number of civilian casualties
as a result of bombing by UK/NATO/US forces in Afghanistan. While I
am interested in all such assessments made over the duration of the
war in Afghanistan, I am particularly interested in the most recent
figures.

Yours faithfully,

Laurence Rowe

Dear Sir/Madam,

Re: FOI Request 04-02-2009-111623-004

Thank you for your prompt response.

While I can appreciate the difficulty of monitoring atrocities
against the civilian population by the Taliban, my question
referred to the number of civilian casualties as a result of ISAF
action. Recent media reports [1] indicate that you do keep such
figures. I would be grateful if you could supply them to me. As I'm
sure you can appreciate, such information is vital if the public is
to evaluate the statements made by politicians that our military
involvement does indeed "support the people of Afghanistan".

Yours sincerely,

Laurence Rowe
