Dear D. Speers,
Thank you for your request of 7 November 2009 in which you asked for the
following information:
Please can you provide me with details of the amount of money that
Oxfordshire County Council spends annually on Christmas trees?
What proportion of this is spent on trees outside for the public to
enjoy and what proportion on indoor trees in Council facilities?
Unfortunately, very little of the information you have requested is
available to you. The council is unable to supply information on the
amount of money that the council spends on Christmas trees for its 850
properties (including schools). This type of spend is not held centrally
and is not coded to a specific budget code on the council's accounting
system. To retrieve and extract this information from the accounting
system would require a disproportionate amount of work and would be likely
to exceed the appropriate limit of £450 as set out in the Freedom of
Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations
2004. To provide you with this information would therefore involve a
considerable diversion of resources from Oxfordshire County Council's
other work. In this case then the council has decided that it cannot
provide you with this information.
At County Hall, Oxford, the annual spend is minimal. We have on order at
present an additional artificial tree for the inside of the reception
area, which, will cost £90 including lights.
Christmas lights outside the main entrance to County Hall, costing £200
per annum, are provided and paid for by the council's property consultant,
Mouchel.
