Ian Rossiter made this Freedom of Information request to City of London Corporation

City of London Corporation did not have the information requested.

From: Ian Rossiter

21 August 2011

Dear City of London Corporation,

It is my understanding that the "City of London Corporation" is a
"Corporation by Prescriptive Right in Common Law". Since this
involves the drawing up of an original Charter, and to further my
research into your unique standing, where may one find the wording
of such, a certified copy of the original and/or any and all
subsequent changes and/or ammendments, the original draftees or to
whom would one make the relevant enquiries?

Yours faithfully,

Ian Rossiter

Dear Mr Rossiter,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 (FOIA) - INFORMATION REQUEST

Following your request of 30 September 2011, and our acknowledgement of
the same date, the City of London Corporation (CoL) responds as follows.

The CoL does not hold the information you have requested.

You requested information as to “… who was the original Disseisee and …
the original Disseisor regarding the ‘real estate’/area that is now called
‘The City of London Corporation’?”  We note that you have used the terms
Disseisee and Disseisor.  These legal terms relate to the wrongful putting
out of the person who is actually seised of a freehold interest in land
i.e. the dispossession of the person who is the rightful legal owner. You
have asked for this information in respect of the “original” Disseisee and
Disseisor.  We have therefore interpreted your request as being a request
for details of first owner of land within the current City of London
authority boundaries whose rights were dispossessed by another, and the
name of the first dispossessor of that land.

In our email of 22 August 2011, sent in response to your previous request
dated 21 August 2011, we provided you with links to information on the
CoL’s website.  The webpages explained that the urban centre of the City
of London existed before the Norman Conquest in 1066, there being a Roman
settlement on the site following their Conquest in AD 43.  As such the
original rights in land located within the boundaries of the City of
London (those boundaries having also altered over the centuries) will be
difficult, if at all possible, to identify. Here is a link to the relevant
webpage again, for your ease of reference -
[1]http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporati...

While not requested by you, we are able to advise you that the CoL will
hold information relating to its own interests in land.  Relevant records
are held by the London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) and may be accessed by
contacting the LMA directly:
[2]http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporati...

[3]http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporati...

If you are interested in information relating to any land located within
the CoL authority area which you may consider has been the subject of
dispossession by the CoL, you would need to identify the land in question.

Information relating to land currently owned by the CoL and registered
with the Land Registry is available to the public by contacting the Land
Registry directly: [4]http://www.landregistry.gov.uk/.

You may also find it helpful to access records held at the Guildhall
Library:
[5]http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporati...
The Museum of London (which has its own obligations as a public authority
under the FOIA) also holds information about the history of the City of
London:  [6]http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/.

If you wish to make a complaint about the way the CoL has managed your
enquiry, please make your complaint in writing to email address:
[7][email address]. For a link to the CoL’s FOI complaints
procedure, please visit the following page:
[8]www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Feedback, at the end of which is located the
FOI complaints procedure. If, having used the CoL’s FOI Complaints
Procedure, you are still dissatisfied, you may request the Information
Commissioner to investigate. Please contact: Information Commissioner,
Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF. Telephone:
(01625) 545700.  Website: [9]http://www.ico.gov.uk/.

The FOIA applies to the CoL as a local authority, police authority and
