Charity numbers

Thank you for your email to the Charity Commission.

Charity Commission Direct will usually respond to general email enquiries
within five working days where there is no need for referral to one of our
specialist operational teams.

If we cannot give you a full response within fifteen days, we will contact
you and let you know the reasons why this is not possible and indicate
when we expect to be in a position to give you a full response. We will
also let you have the name and contact number of the person dealing with
your query.

Thank you for your request. As the number of main charities removed from
the register since 1991 exceeds 109,000 and the number of live main
charities exceeds 160,000, it is not obvious to me what would be the most
helpful way to present the data. Perhaps you would be kind enough to

use.

Note that I am not asking for any associated information, just an
actual list of numbers.

Dear Mr Elibank,
An Excel worksheet has less than 64,000 rows, so the data would have to
go into multiple columns on the same worksheet or multiple worksheets in
the same workbook. Alternatively I could supply the numbers in a single
list, one per line, to be imported into any database package that can
take text or comma-separated files.

You will have now received a response from my colleague Eleanor Tew

If after this you remain unhappy with the decision, you may apply directly
to the Information Commissioner (ICO) for a decision. Generally, the ICO
cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted our complaints
