6) If there have been day service closures within the local authority,
have any alternative services been put in place for those who attended the
day centre; i.e. new learning disability-specific community activities or
transport to/from suitable existing day activities?
Response: N/A – when the Brunel Centre, Maidenhead moved to the new
building at Boyn Grove, we managed the service by accommodating service
users at the Oakbridge Centre, Windsor. Community based activities ran and
with transport provided by day services to get to Windsor and the
community venues where necessary.

were consultations held, and if so, what were the consultation periods?
Please provide full details (excluding personal/confidential data) of all
consultation responses and the resulting statement from the council.
Response: March 2010 - RBWM consulted with service users, parents/ carers
and staff about the option/ viability of externalising Day Services to the
private/voluntary sector. Evidence was gathered by consultants to put
together a Business Case. The decision was made not to follow up this
option at that time.
8) Have charges for any of the following services increased since 1st
April 2009:
i. day centre attendance
ii. transport to and from day activities
iii. any related activities;
and if so, by how much?
Response:
i. day centre attendance - no charge until April 2011 when RBWM
implemented ‘My Care, My Choice’. Service users now pay a contribution
towards their services based on their individual assessment of need and a
financial assessment.
ii. transport to and from day activities – no charge until April 2011. As
above; there is now a flat rate cost for transport provided for service
users using transport provided by Day Services to and from their home-
centre. No additional cost is charged for transport to and from activities
during the day.
iii. any related activities – discounted rate for Community activities
e.g. Swim/ Gym, Bowling etc. charged by the external establishment (i.e.
activities that general public would pay for.)
