Change of street name

From: Bernard Solca

Dear East Riding of Yorkshire Council,
Can you please tell me who made the decision, when the decision was
made and the reason why the decision was made to change the name of
‘The Covet’ (HU16 4SE) in Cottingham to ‘The Covert’? This was done
without any consultation with the residents.
The properties were built in the early 1990’s by Persimmon The area
was known as ‘The Mews’. When the properties were sold the address
had changed to The Covet.
The Covet appeared on the street sign post.
The deeds to the property refer to The Covet.
The Valuation Department had the address as The Covet.
The Land Registry had the properties listed as The Covet.
For ten years Council Tax bills were addressed to The Covet
When the highway was adopted by the council it was ‘The Covet’.
Then one day the signposted name was changed from ‘The Covet’ to
‘The Covert’.
Enquiries I made at the time produced the following response
“Regarding the name ‘The Covert’ it would appear that the correct
name for the cul-de-sac is in fact The Covert as currently
signposted.” Which I think you will agree was not much of an
explanation for the change after ten years being known as ‘The
Covet’.
What has prompted me to seek a fuller explanation now is a
communication received from the Council this week addressed to ‘The
Covet’.
Yours faithfully,
Bernard Solca
