Chancellor's expenses

James Brine made this Freedom of Information request to University of Oxford

The request was successful.

From: James Brine

18 August 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to request a listing of all The Chancellor's expenses
broken down by claim and/or receipt for the
previous 12 months up until this request is answered. Where such
expenses include hospitality, accommodation etc your response
should include details of the establishment at which such expense
was incurred.

With respect to this request, I ask that you consider the High
Court decision (Corporate Officer of the House of Commons v The
Information Commissioner & Leapman, Brooke, Thomas [2008] EWHC 1084
(Admin) (16 May 2008)) in which the Court ruled that MPs' must
disclose the full details of their Additional Costs Allowance. This
case does not stand alone but is rather the culmination of a
gathering body of case law in which it is accepted that officials
spending the public's money have a responsibility to account for
that expenditure to the public.

I would ask that you remember the Act’s Section 16 duty on public
authorities to provide advice and assistance to requesters. If for
any reason you are leaning toward rejecting any part of this
request or if you plan to argue that it is unmanageable or
unanswerable in any way then I would expect you to contact me
promptly to find ways to answer this request to our mutual
satisfaction.

I would also be grateful if you could confirm
in writing that you have received this request via this website,
and I look forward to hearing from you within the 20-working day
statutory time period.

Yours faithfully,

James Brine
