Dear Mr Easton
Thank you for your Freedom of Information enquiry and I must apologise
for the delay in responding to your enquiry.
Our CCTV/Emergency Planning Service has supplied the information to your
query and it is as follows:
We are aware of the Information Commissioners recommended code of
practice and we comply with the Data Protection Act 1998.
We do not collate cameras by political boundaries, as these boundaries
have no relevance in operational matters, which is our primary concern.
We do have a record of where Public Space Surveillance cameras are,
broken down into these areas:
Hackney Central 53
Leabridge 2
South East Hackney 8
Shoreditch 25
Stamford hill 11
Stoke Newington 19
Upper/Lower Clapton 10
Well St 2
Broadway market 10
Clapton Park 7
Dalston and Kingsland 28
Hackney downs 6
Hackney North 13
Hackney South 7
Homerton 10
London Fields Lido 4
Kingsmead 11
Total 226
I hope this response meets your requirements.
Please do not hesitate to contact me further if you have any questions
or queries.
Yours sincerely

Dear Ms. Rensch,
Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately, the first question remains unanswered. The question
was not whether the Council is aware of the ICO's CCTV Code of
Practice, nor whether the Council complies with the 1998 Data
Protection Act. The question was : does the Council subscribe to
the ICO's Code of Practice. If this question was unclear, please
allow me to elaborate : does Hackney Borough Council follow a CCTV
Code of Practice, as defined by the Information Commissioner ? If
this is still unclear, please let me know what you need to have
clarified further it so that you can answer the question.
Yours sincerely,
D. Easton.

Dear Mr Easton,
Please find the response to your further enquiry sent 19th September.
Our CCTV service has answered your question below.
The CCTV Service uses the Cambridge University Press dictionary
definintion of the word 'subscribe':
"to pay money to an organization in order to receive a product, use a
service regularly or support the organization"
The ICO does not offer a service where organisations can pay money to
them to receive their products, or use their services - the ICO is a
Government regulatory body. Therefore we are unable to say that we
subscribe to the ICO code of practice as this is not possible.
I am able to state that LB Hackney CCTV Service is aware of the ICOs
guidleines and uses them in making all decisions relating to the Data
Protection Act 1998, but as we are unable to subscribe to the ICO or
their code of practice, the correct answer to the original question is
'No'.
I have been advised that Hackney Council's code of practice is currently
undergoing review due to changes in technolgy and the way we work and
will be published on the www.hackney.gov.uk website soon
I hope this response meets your requirements.
Yours sincerely
