Dear Sir or Madam,

Please provide information on the following:

i) The number of CCTV cameras installed in public areas which are
controlled, monitored or operated by Edinburgh Council and the
general capability of those cameras (i.e resolution, frames per
second, remote movement/focus control, infra-red capabilities,
viable range).

ii) How many staff are involved in the monitoring of the CCTV
feeds.

iii) If any of the Council's monitoring provisions include audio
capabilities.

iv) The location/address of the Council's main monitoring station.

v) If there is a database or list of locations of installed
cameras.

vi) If (v) exists does it contain information on the capabilities
of those cameras (i.e. resolution, frames per second and infra-red
capabilities) or the direction / target of those cameras.

vii) If (v) is true, for a copy of said database to be supplied.

viii) What is the data retention time of the images recorded.

ix) Is there any ancillary equipment being used that can
automatically track a single individual between cameras, or
automatically detect an individual within a number of camera feeds
based on a previous facial image (e.g. neural net software).

x) If the CCTV scheme is subcontracted, the names of the companies
subcontracted to and the approximate annual costs paid.

Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Provision of Information

Thank you for your request for information. I have dealt with this in
accordance with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and enclose
the information you requested.

Qi) The number of CCTV cameras installed in public areas which are
controlled monitored or operated by Edinburgh Council and the general
capability of those cameras (i.e..e. resolution, frames per second, remote
movement/focus control, infra-red capabilities, viable range).

A1) There are 247 public space CCTV cameras which are owned and operated
by CEC. The resolution rate of these is "two CIF double", resolution is 25
frames per second. All cameras have remote movement and focus control and
all are capable of ID quality at 200 metres. None of the cameras have
infra-red capabilities.

Qii) How many staff is involved in the monitoring of the CCTV feeds.

A2) There are 18 operators.

Qiii) If any of the Council's monitoring provisions include audio
capabilities.

A3) There are no audio capabilities.

Qiv) The location/address of the Council's main monitoring station.

A4) The Unit is at the City Chambers, High Street, Edinburgh

Qv) If there is a database or list of locations of installed cameras.

A5) There is a camera list which is attached.

Qvi) If (v) exists does it contain information on the capabilities of
those cameras (i.e..e. resolution, frames per second and infra-red
capabilities) or the direction / target of those cameras.

A6) No this does not exist

Qvii) If (v) is true, for a copy of said database to be supplied.

A7) List attached

Qviii) What is the data retention time of the images recorded.

A8) Images are kept for 14 days unless kept for a Production

Qix) Is there any ancillary equipment being used that can automatically
track a single individual between cameras, or automatically detect an
individual within a number of camera feeds based on a previous facial
image (e.g. neural net software).

A9) We do not have this kind of equipment

Qx) If the CCTV scheme is subcontracted, the names of the companies
subcontracted to and the approximate annual costs paid.

A0) It is not subcontracted
