CCTV

Christopher Raper-Smith made this Freedom of Information request to Middlesbrough Council

The request was successful.

From: Christopher Raper-Smith

22 December 2009

Dear Middlesbrough Council,

I am enquiring about the use of CCTV for parking enforcement which
I believe is called approved devices under the Traffic Management
Act 2004.

Dft publishes guidance for this which states:

"Motorists may regard enforcement by cameras as over-zealous and
authorities should use them sparingly. The Secretary of State
recommends that authorities put up signs to tell drivers that they
are using cameras to detect contraventions. ... The Secretary of
State recommends that approved devices are used only where
enforcement is difficult or sensitive and CEO enforcement is not
practical."

In the light of this can you please answer the following.

1.) Does the authority issue parking tickets using approved
devices, whether fixed or mounted on vehicles, and if so what is
the equipment used ?
2.) Will you please supply a list of locations in the area covered
where enforcement is difficult or sensitive or impractical as
described above, together with the reason ?
3.) Please list in which of these locations signs have been put up
as suggested in the guidance document.
4.) Please supply a list of all locations in your borough where
parking tickets have been issued through the use of approved
devices, together with the numbers issued this year.

Yours faithfully,

Christopher Raper-Smith
