CBT Certificates issued by Age and Gender

David Wilson made this Freedom of Information request to Driving Standards Agency

Driving Standards Agency did not have the information requested.

From: David Wilson

4 May 2011

Dear Driving Standards Agency,

I am writing with regard to statistics over time on the number of
people undergoing Compulsory Basic Training in respect of
Motorcycle Licensing, broken down by age and gender.

I have been able to find this information for the years 1991-2000
via the ONS and DSA websites, and would be most interested and
grateful to see any statistics you hold for more recent years.

Yours faithfully,

David Wilson

Dear Mr Wilson

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FoIA) REQUEST

Thank you for your email of 4 May 2011 about compulsory basic training
(CBT) and statistics as to the age and gender of those undertaking this
training.

Before we are able to respond, I would like some clarification of the
information you have requested. We keep records as to the number of CBT
certificates issued to training bodies but we do not keep records as to
who the training body issues these certificates to. I have noted that you
have said that this information is available and would appreciate it if
you could send me links to these websites so I can investigate the source
of this information.

Whilst we do not hold the information you have requested, we do hold
statistics (broken into age and gender and test centre) as to the number
of candidates passing their motorcycle practical test which they would not
be able to do if they do not hold a CBT certificate. If this information
would meet your requirements, please confirm this is the information you
require.

Please note that without clarification of your requirements we will be
unable to process your request. If you do not respond within three months
from the date of this letter, then we will consider your request closed.

If you wish to discuss your request further then please contact me on the
details above. Please remember to quote your case reference number in any
future communications.

Yours sincerely

Alison Wilson

Dear Alison,

Many thanks for your prompt reply. The source of the information
was the 2006 edition of the ONS / DfT publication "Compendium of
Motorcycling Statistics" in Table 1.5. The data in this table is
credited to the DSA, and it was the same data for subsequent years
that I was interested in seeing.

The online link is here (you have to click again to retrieve from

Thanks in advance for your time and attention in this matter.

Yours sincerely,

David Wilson
