Dear Sir or Madam,

Can the treasury confirm whether it is possible to generate a
backdated letter on the Inland Revenue computer system?

For example, assuming today is the 22nd of April 2008, can a letter
be printed with a date of 1st January 2005?

Yours faithfully,

Simon Kloot

Tully, Eileen (IMS)

29 April 2009

Dear Mr Kloot,

I refer to your enquiry dated 22 April, received via HM Treasury. You
asked:
"Can the treasury confirm whether it is possible to generate a backdated
letter on the Inland Revenue computer system?
For example, assuming today is the 22nd of April 2008, can a letter be
printed with a date of 1st January 2005?"

HMRC requires further information in order to identify and locate the
information that you have asked for in order to provide you with a
meaningful reply. I will not be able to take this matter further without
extra information from you. In particular, it would be useful to know the
particular letter you are referring to and the systems / taxes.
With regards,

Eileen Tully | IMS Strategic Communications | 020 8544 2717
