Can Candidates Defer Taking Up Posts
Ian Smith made this Freedom of Information request to National Museums of Scotland
The request was successful.
From: Ian Smith
5 April 2009
Dear Sir or Madam,
How many times in the last three years (from todays date) have
successful interview candidates been able to defer taking up a post
with the organisation for more than one month? Can the figures be
broken down into periods of:
1-6 months; 6-12 months; 13 months or more.
Can you also tell me if there is an upper limit on how long your
organisation is willing to allow someone to defer taking up a post.
Yours faithfully,
Ian Smith

We have never deferred a successful candidate in taking up their post. The
start date is mutually agreed and is dependent on the notice period which
can be anything up to 3 months.
