Dear Mr Behr
Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 4
February 2011 asking for information relating to the removal of Congestion
Charge cameras located in the Western Extension of the Congestion Charge
zone.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the
Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and I can confirm that TfL does
hold the information you require.
Have cameras installed to enforce congestion charges in the western
extension of the charging zone, no longer in force, been removed?
Decommissioning of the camera infrastructure is in progress. The programme
of removal works began on 24 January 2011 and is due to be complete by 31
July 2011.
If not, do they remain in operation? If so, please provide details of
information being gathered.
76 of the 137 camera sites were switched off on 31 December 2010. The
remaining 61 sites remain operational collecting number plate data, but no
images. This information is being used for traffic flow monitoring
purposes to allow TfL to understand the impact the removal of the Western
Extension Zone is having on traffic flow and speeds.
Please also provide manufacturer details of congestion charge zone cameras
and equipment.
The cameras used for Congestion Charging are manufactured by PIPS
Technology and installed by Siemens.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal.
Yours sincerely
