Caesarean Sections

Mr Croeser made this Freedom of Information request to Newham University Hospital NHS Trust

The request was partially successful.

From: Mr Croeser

9 February 2012

Dear Newham University Hospital NHS Trust,

Please could you provide the following information;

1-No. of planned caesarean sections undertaken by the hospital each
year since 2007

2-No. of complications and deaths arising from planned caesarean
sections undertaken by the hospital for each year.

3-No. of cases of mother or child being re-admitted to hospital
within 3 months of the child’s birth (natural and c-section
statistics).

4-No. of cases (not due to patient error/choice) where planned
caesarean sections were not carried out, and the reasons.

5-Caesarean section patient satisfaction results for each year
since 2007.

I would be pleased if you could provide your policies and
procedures in relation to elective caesarean sections, both where
there is medical need, and where there is not.

I would also be grateful if you could provide information on how
somebody would request this procedure.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Croeser

Dear Jeni Deborah A Mwebaze,

Please respond to point 2 in full. ALL other hospitals have been
able to do so, so i do not believe you are unable to do so

Yours sincerely,

Mr Croeser

Dear Mr Croeser,

Thank you for your email below.

I have contacted the Trust's Business Intelligence Team again and they
advise that, they are not able to answer the question in the manner it is
asked.

This is because while they can pull out information on all complications,
they are not able to confirm which ones are purely a result of a planned
C-section. Please rephrase the question or be specific about the
complications you are interested in.

In terms of  "deaths arising from planned caesarean sections undertaken by
the hospital for each year.” The number is Zero.

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,

Jeni Deborah A Mwebaze

Information Governance Facilitator.
