Dear Sir or Madam,
The Department of Regional Development is currently producing plans
to build the Eway on the old track-bed of the Belfast & County Down
Railway (BCDR) out of Belfast towards Dundonald.
Are you aware that there are still remnants of the Neills Hill
railway station still in existence some 58 years following closure
i.e.: a platform on one side? These remnants are the only piece of
the former BCDR still in existence along the Eway route.
Can you advise if there are any plans to place a Buildings
Preservation Notice on the remaining platform at Neills Hill
station? This action would help to ensure that part of the historic
Belfast & County Down railway is retained in the ambitious Eway
plan.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
Yours faithfully,
Gavin Bamford

Dear Mr. Bamford
I apologise for the delay in responding to you with regards to the above
building. I am in the process of opening a Listing Query file and will
ensure that our Senior Conservation Architects receive it as soon as
possible.
If you have any further information on Neills Hill Railway Station I
would be very grateful if you could pass it on to us, in particular, a
location map showing the building in question. This will help us when
it comes to visiting the station to carry out our inspection.
Thank you.

Dear Ms Drake,
Neill's Hill Railway Station is situated on the former BCDR railway
line at Sandown Road, Belfast BT5. There is one short visible
stretch of old platform and presumably more of the same below the
overgrowth. The station dates back to 1890 with closure in 1950 and
it is possible that these are the only BCDR remnants that are
in-situ along the proposed eWay route.
I await your formal response in due course.
Yours sincerely,
Gavin Bamford
