Dear Mr Hyatt

FOI 2038

Barnsley's BSF scheme replaces all of the borough's secondary schools with
nine new build Advanced Learning Centres. The two borough special schools
will be considerably improved and an integrated managed ICT service will
be provided. The whole BSF programme is going ahead on schedule.

Barnsley BSF is a £1 billion plus programme, the largest ever capital
investment in the borough; it is being delivered by a Public Private
Partnership (PPP) known as the Barnsley Local Education Partnership (LEP).
Barnsley LEP's Private Sector Partner, Barnsley Partnership for Learning
(BP4L), a joint venture between Laing O'Rourke and John Laing, is
investing alongside the council.

We are pleased to inform you that the first two buildings, Carlton
Community College and the Dearne Advanced Learning centre (ALC), were
handed over to schools on Monday 17 January 2011. Information on the
progress of the whole BSF scheme in Barnsley is available on

I would like to make a request for the following information regarding the
Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and Academy programmes.

1) Which schools and academies in your area are either undergoing
redevelopment as a result of the BSF and Academy programmes or will do in
the future, listing which are confirmed to be going ahead either currently
or in the future and which are awaiting a review before they can be
confirmed. If all BSF/Academy developments in your area have been
cancelled due to the spending cuts, then this is all I need to be informed
of and you can disregard the following requested details.

2) The start and completion dates for the building works on each school
and academy, with attention paid to make sure that these are up-to-date as
I understand that the estimated start and completion dates may well have
changed since the BSF and Academy spending cuts in July/August.

3) The main building contractor and architect which you have awarded each
school to. If this decision has not yet been made for certain schools,
then the expected date when you plan to make your decision on this.
