BREEAM statistics
M Starrs made this Freedom of Information request to Office of Government Commerce
The request was partially successful.
From: M Starrs
25 February 2011
Dear Office of Government Commerce,
OGC require BREEAM assessments on major projects:
The Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment
Method (BREEAM) is regarded by the UK's construction and property
sector as the measure of best practice in environmental design and
management. BREEAM, or an equivalent methodology, must be used in
all major government construction projects. In new builds a rating
of "excellent" must be achieved, in major refurbishments a rating
of at least "very good" must be achieved.
Please advise how many buildings have been rated, what score (%)
and rating they each received, and what scheme (building type and
year) they were assessed under.
Yours faithfully,
M Starrs

statutory timescale of 20 working days as defined by the Act, subject to
the information not being exempt or containing a reference to a third

If this is likely you will be informed and given a revised time-scale at
the earliest opportunity.
OGC's policy is not to charge for providing information where to do so
costs less than the "appropriate limit" [Note: The "appropriate limit"
means such amount as may be set by the regulations], which is currently
£600
Where the cost of providing information would exceed £600, OGC will
generally not provide the information. However, OGC may be able to provide
some of the information requested if it can be supplied within the
"appropriate limit".
There may be a separate fee payable for the costs of copying and postage
if you require the information in hard copy. If this is the case you will
be informed and the 20 working day timescale will be suspended until we
