Our namesake Adam Smith was born in the town of Kirkcaldy
around 1723. A philosopher and educationalist, he is recognised worldwide
as one of the foremost thinkers in the Scottish Enlightenment. He was a
great Scot with an international reputation, living in challenging times,
leading learning, supporting learning, focused on
enterprise... it's no wonder that we named our College after such an
inspiring man!
We continue his inspirational spirit at Adam Smith
College.
Adam Smith is also promoted by a series of Adam Smith
Lectures, the latest of which was delivered by Kofi Annan in the presence
of the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown. The lectures promote the life and
work of Adam Smith "Kirkcaldy's most famous son - a leading figure of the
Scottish Enlightenment and the father of modern economics" The latest
lecture can be viewed on this link [1]Adam Smith TV
