Dear Sirs
Please provide the following information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.
There are restrictions placed on those working in the Police Force
regarding membership of the British National Party. Does your force
have any restrictions on a member of your Police Force:-
a) donating to the British National Party?
b) subscribing to a British National Party publication?
c) purchasing goods from the British National Party?
d) signing a petition in favour of the British National Party?
e) signing a nomination form for a British National Party
candidate?

Dear Mr Walker ,
FREEDOM of INFORMATION ACT 2000
Thank you for your request for Information, received at this office on November 24, 2009, in which you requested details of the following:
"There are restrictions placed on those working in the Police Force regarding membership of the British National Party. Does your force have any restrictions on a member of your Police Force:-
a) donating to the British National Party?
b) subscribing to a British National Party publication?
c) purchasing goods from the British National Party?
d) signing a petition in favour of the British National Party?
e) signing a nomination form for a British National Party candidate?"
Your request will now be considered and you will receive a response within the statutory timescale of 20 working days as defined by the Act, subject to the information not being exempt or containing a reference to a third party. In some circumstances Suffolk Constabulary may be unable to achieve this deadline. If this is likely you will be informed and given a revised time-scale at the earliest opportunity.
There may be a fee payable for the retrieval, collation and provision of the information you request. If this is the case you will be informed and the 20 working day timescale will be suspended until we receive payment from you. If you chose not to make a payment then your request will remain unanswered.
Some requests may also require either full or partial transference to another public authority in order to answer your query in the fullest possible way. Again, you will be informed if this is the case.
We anticipate being able to provide you with information that you have requested by 24 December 2009.

Dear Mr. Walker,
Thank you for your request for information dated 26 November 2009
concerning any restrictions on a member of Suffolk Constabulary concerning
membership of the BNP.
This is to inform you that all information relating to your request has
been collated my response is attached. This request is now complete and
shall be closed immediately.
Please be advised that this is your third request for similar information
in the space of a few weeks and, although I am happy to supply information
to you on this occasion, you should be aware that any future like requests
may be exempt from disclosure by virtue of section 14 - vexatious request.
This can bu used 'where a public Authority has previously complied with a
request for information which was made by any person, it is not obliged to
comply with a subsequent identical or substantially similar request from
that person unless a reasonable interval has elapsed between compliance
with the previous request and the making of the current request'. Please
note that the reasonable time frame is 60 working days.
Suffolk Constabulary has provided you with as much information as we can
on this subject that being that Police employee membership of any
political party is a statutory bar and the FOI Act should not be utilised
to debate any issues there may be in this area.
