The Head of the Police Training Division called me today and he explained the position entirely to my satisfaction. I have now no doubts that the suspected abuse of 'blues and twos' is not the case.

Please can you clarify what you suspected and what information you received on the phone?

My parents got it into their heads that the 'going off-duty' officers at the Wrotham end of the M20 were abusing their sirens and lights in order to finish their shift on time, because they heard sirens three times a week at the same time, 5.30pm. I spoke to the head of traffic division who explained the legalities etc. Knowing the motorway at that time of day I can see any car on call would have no option but to use their lights to get through two merging motorways and the lack of cars available means there is only one between J7 and Clacket Lane Services...
