Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your e-mail.

The original birth certificate that is issued at birth is officially the
owners.

However, the entry and record of that birth is the property of the
Registrar General.

Any further copies that obtained from that record are then the owners
property.

I hope this information assists you .

Regards

sounds very dubious to me!the birth certificate is the owners but the entry and record is the general registry office's.the certificate is only a copy of the entry,so by their answer does this not make us all their property?

i smell wordplay, everything is owned by its owners surely. note, they did not say bearers, but owners. the question should be, WHO are the owners

As the GRO has suggested to an earlier question.
The ORIGINAL certificate is government property, therefore your NAME as recorded therefore would also seem to be government property. And the "copy" given to the parents is merely a form of receipt for the Transaction. Perhaps a question could be asked as to whom it is who holds "title" of your NAME.
