Dear Mr Canhan,
In your message of 21 April 2011, which you further clarified on 2 May
2011, you requested the following information in accordance with the
Freedom of Information Act:
I wish to review the BIM Management plan in order to understand what are
the contracted BIM obligations of the designers in terms of BIM model
content and model naming conventions and roles & responsibilities for
model integration.
Crossrail Ltd (CRL) does not have a specific "BIM Management plan". There
are no specific explicit contracted BIM obligations to our designers in
terms of model content, model naming conventions and roles &
responsibilities for model integration because of the wide and differing
interpretations as to what a BIM (Building Information Modelling)
environment may be.
However, our designers are contracted to deliver a three-dimensional model
and associated data using processes and CAD standards based on BS
1192:207. This standard sets out the basis on which the delivery of
three-dimensional information models and their associated data should be
delivered.
We have created a collaborative common data environment across the design
contracts and most data in our CAD system is compliant to the British
Standard (including our numbering system, revisions, and suitability
codes). We use the Uniclass object-based classification scheme for naming
conventions, etc.
Commercial data is managed by standalone finance and cost management
packages with no integration into the three-dimensional environment.
I trust this provides the information you requested. Please see the
attached information for details of your right to appeal if you are
dissatisfied with the way CRL has handled your request.
Yours sincerely
