Dear Mr. Walton,
In response to your request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000. You asked for the following information:
Question 1: How many people in your care (Camden and Islington) over the
following years are/or have been using benzodiazepines (including the Z's)
Please can this broken down in terms of:
1) the Following years, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
And
A) Age
B) Ethnic group and
C) Gender for each.
Answer 1:
In order to provide you with the information on the scale that you have
requested would require a search of the paper records of each service user
we see (over 13,000 per year) to ascertain whether they had been both
prescribed and `used'/taken benzodiazepines, as we do not routinely
collect this information in an electronic format, at present.
Section 12 of the Act makes provision for public authorities to refuse
requests for information where the cost of dealing with them would exceed
the appropriate limit, which for NHS organisations is set at £450. This
represents the estimated cost of one person spending 3.5 working days in
determining whether the department holds the information, locating,
retrieving and extracting the information.
We estimate that it will take us in excess of 3.5 working days to
determine appropriate material and locate, retrieve and extract the
information in reference to your request. Therefore, your request will not
be processed further.
You may wish to refine your request by narrowing its scope, by being more
specific about what information you particularly wish to obtain, including
any dates or period of time relevant to the information required.
If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your
original letter.
Information on the information we hold and information on who to contact
if you are not satisfied is available on our website at:
