Dear Sir or Madam,
Will you please send me all relevent risk assessments you have
made regarding the rivers and waterways in the vicinity of Croft
Pool and Delamere Road Bedworth Warwickshire and what you have in
mind in the event of the stretch of river that flows from the end
of the A444 Culvert to Croft Pool culvert where in the event of the
waterway becoming blocked and overflowing it cascades into the
ditch at the bottom of the A444 and travels to no 67 DELAMERE ROAD
and then into Delamere Road itself.

Yours faithfully,

P E Roseblade

Dear Mr Todd,
Many thanks for your prompt reply, I fully understand the twenty
working days waiting time, but I can not stress the urgency of the
situation that residents in Delamere Road and Croft Pool find
themselves in. They are still in imminent danger of flooding as
recent civil engineering works have created a serious inevitable
threat to life and properties in this area.
Yours sincerely,

P E Roseblade

Dear P E Roseblade,

Thank you for raising your concerns around flooding in the Bedworth
area. We have comprehensive maintenance schedules for the watercourses
you are concerned with. Our Operations Delivery Workforce clear the
trash screens (grilles) on the River Sowe and Bedworth Slough Brook in
Bedworth to remove debris blockages with the aim of reducing the flood
risk. These screens are located at Newtown Road, Croft Pool Road and
adjacent to Adelaide Court Flats.

It is intended that the grilles are inspected every month, however we do
try and visit after periods of heavy rain or high water. Between January
and December 2008, these grilles were inspected and any blockages
removed on 22 occasions. We also carry out tree maintenance work to
reduce flood risk. The watercourses and associated structures on the
River Sowe and Bedworth Slough Brook in Bedworth are visually inspected
for condition every 2 years. The last inspection was March 2008.

We are currently undertaking improvement works to the trash screens
(grilles) on the River Sowe and Bedworth Slough Brook.

The works consist of the replacement and refurbishment of a trash
screen (grille) on the Bedworth Slough Brook, adjacent to Adelaide Court
flats. The aim of the works is to improve operational access for the EA
workforce to clear blockages from the screen and reduce flood risk.
Works undertaken to date consist only of the construction of access
steps and installation of gates to provide a safe access for blockage
removal. A replacement trash screen allowing for safe debris blockage
clearance is programmed to be installed in February.

Similar works are underway at the trash screen on the River Sowe,
upstream of Newtown Road, consisting of the construction of gates and
steps for safe operational access. A replacement trash screen allowing
for safe debris blockage clearance is programmed to be installed in
February.

Access improvement works have also been undertaken on the River Sowe at
the inlet of the culvert on Croft Pool, the works consist of the
installation of an access gate in the bridge parapet and refurbishment
of the existing steps.

Following the recent flood event we are investigating the possibility of
flood alleviation works with the aim of reducing flood risk to
properties in Delamere Road.

Kind regards,

Sam Todd
