Dear Natural England,
I am writing to ask why and what justification you have for
imposing a metal detecting ban on what would seem to be most of the
North Norfolk coast, according to your maps. I have a crown estates
permit which covers this area only to discover that the areas are
leased to yourselves and there is a ban in place, I find this
strange as obviously a metal detectorist digging a hole on the
beach will probably cause very little impact and as there are no
bans on children digging holes or bait diggers digging holes why is
it that metal detectorists are banned from carrying out their
hobby. It would seem that natural england are victimising us
detectorists and taking away the only place that some can carry out
their hobby. I have previously sent an email asking for permission
to detect on the beaches but after weeks of waiting I am yet to
recieve a reply.....
Yours faithfully,
Mark Reed

Dear Waterfield, Sarah (NE),
Thankyou for your reply to my request for information, I understand
the reasons you quote re boundaries, but most detectorists can read
a map, point 2, no responsible detectorist would stray onto either
the dunes or saltmarsh area's to disturb flora and fauna, as for
discouraging detecting on the beach area's due to health and saftey
re unexploded ordnance this I feel is more of an excuse there are
no measures to stop others digging holes a lot deeper and wider
than any detectorist would need to dig, most of the holes a
detectorist would dig would be less than 12 inches deep. I
appreciate your time and effort in making your reply to me but
would also appreciate it if you could clarify the area's of beach
it would be OK to detect on with the owners permission, I assume in
most cases this would be crown estates as most of the coast line is
shown as belonging to them.
regards Mark Reed
Yours sincerely,
Mark Reed
