William Baker made this Freedom of Information request to British Broadcasting Corporation

The request was partially successful.

From: William Baker

20 June 2011

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

How many fleet vehicles are currently used by BBC Yorkshire? How
much does each vehicle cost the BBC? How many were involved in road
traffic accidents (RTA) in 2010? How much did the BBC pay for
damage repair to the Fleet vehicles as a result of any RTA's?

Yours faithfully,

William Baker

John Booth left an annotation (18 July 2011)

It's shameful that the BBC continue to use the journalist excuse to get out of answering whatever request it sees fit to hide from the people who pay their wages, well the truth is just about out now, more and more people know they cannot force a licence fee on you, it's unlawful (unless you say your name) that's where they get you, even if they say your name, do not confirm or recognise it as its the contract that they will use to prosecute (now that really is helpful information for anyone unhappy about the BBC)

Peter Jones left an annotation (21 July 2011)

On this occasion, the BBC has graciously decided to provide the information requested, despite it being exempt (in their eyes only).
As John Booth rightly says the "journalism, art and literature" exemption the BBC trots out ad nauseum is absolute bullcrap. It's their standard response, despite the merits or validity of the question posed, when they want to wriggle out of potential embarassing disclosure.
The BBC frequently abuse the legislation in this respect.
