BBC Question Time 2009 - Nick Griffin

Paul Davies made this Freedom of Information request to British Broadcasting Corporation

The request was refused by British Broadcasting Corporation.

From: Paul Davies

11 October 2011

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

I would like to make a Freedom of Information request concerning
the 2009 edition of the BBC's Question Time which featured Mr Nick
Griffin MEP.

I have a few questions I would like to put you about the show:

1. Question Time has always been a show where different politicians
discuss current political issues and topics of the day. Can you
explain why the BBC changed the format of the show and did not
discuss any current topics or political issues?

2. In planning the show, did you discuss or agree the format of the
show inconjunction with the Labour party or other political
parties? Was there any meeting or discussion between the BBC and
representatives of the other political parties?

3. Who decided or approved the questions which were put to Mr
Griffin, if these were decided beforehand?

4. Can you explain the audience selection process? Were they
selected from one particular town, or from different parts of the
country? Were they approached, or did they apply to appear on the
show?

5. What criteria did you apply to audience members? Was asking
their religion, ethnicity or views about the BNP part of the
criteria process in selecting suitable audience members?

6. Despite pledges from the BBC to allow the BNP to appear on
future Question Time shows, there have been no further invitations
since 2009. Can you explain why, and whether you intend to invite
the BBC onto future Question Time shows?

Yours faithfully,

Paul Davies
