BBC Question Time

Chris Beverley made this Freedom of Information request to British Broadcasting Corporation

The request was partially successful.

From: Chris Beverley

17 August 2010

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

The BBC, under its Charter, has a duty of impartiality in terms of
the political sphere. The BBC is, moreover, a recipient of funding
from the taxpayer by means of the licence fee. It is therefore
grossly inappropriate the BBC should deviate from anything other
than an observance of strict political neutrality.

In the interests of transparency and public accountability, please
respond to the following questions:

George Galloway is unelected and his party is a fraction of the
size of the British National Party, with a fraction of the support
of the latter in terms of its polling.

1. Why was George Galloway invited to appear on Question Time on
15th July?

2. Why was the BNP not provided with similar Question Time
opportunities when its party was of a similar size to Respect, many
years ago?

It has been revealed by a high ranking officer of the BBC that the
BNP should have received an invitation to attend Question Time some
five years before its first invitation last October, on account of
its tally of elected councillors.

3. Why were the criteria changed, so as to deny the BNP this right?

4. How many meetings at the BBC and between the BBC and Mentorn
have taken place in the past five years where the BNP have been
discussed? Please supply copies of the minutes thereon.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Beverley

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

Regarding the Nick Griffin episode of Question Time:

Why did you invite audience members who had been on a long term
waiting list to this particular episode of Question Time?

Audience members submit information on their applications which
relates to their ethnicity, political and religious backgrounds.

Do you generally take people's religious or political views into
consideration when determining the make up of your audience?

Did you consider other locations for the Nick Griffin episode of
Question Time and why were any of the other locations decided
against?

Was the programme held in a multicultural area so as to place
pressure on the BNP guest?

Yours faithfully,

Chris Beverley
