BBC Contributions to and Monitoring of Third-Party Websites
Peter Jones made this Freedom of Information request to British Broadcasting Corporation
The request was successful.
From: Peter Jones
8 July 2011
Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,
I am making this request for information under the terms of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000.
I am aware that employees of the BBC and/or TV Licensing regularly
make posts on web community sites (e.g. forums frequented by
members of the public) seeking to inform members of the public
about TV licence legislation and procedures. I am further aware
that the BBC and/or TV Licensing regularly monitor third-party
websites critical of the way the BBC and/or TV Licensing conduct
their business.
The BBC and/or TV Licensing would be rightfully concerned if an
unknown entity was posing as one of their employees on a web
community so, in the interests of transparency and e-safety, I am
seeking the disclosure of the following information:
(a) The usernames of any BBC/TV Licensing employees that post on
the following web communities in the course of their official
duties with the BBC/TV Licensing:
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com
http://www.tvlicenceresistance.info/forum
http://tvlicensing.biz/phpBB3
This includes any user who does not openly disclose their
affiliation to the BBC and/or TV Licensing.
(b) Copies of all documents generated by the BBC and/or TV
Licensing since 1st Jan 2010 relating to the following websites:
http://www.tvlicenceresistance.info
http://tvlicensing.biz
http://www.televisionlicence.info
http://watchkeeperslog.blogspot.com
http://www.licencefree.co.uk
http://tv-licensing.blogspot.com
http://www.lime-marmalade.net
I look forward to a candid and complete disclosure, in accordance
with the spirit of the Act.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Jones

Good request - maybe go back with an expanded scope (ie. agencies employed to do this work), and expand it to internal web stats ie. visits from BBC/"TVL" domains to those sites, even if not formally sanctioned.
Things to do with this request
- Add an annotation (to help the requester or others)
- Download a zip file of all correspondence

If I was suspicious I could think they have again interpreted my request to exclude disclosing embarrassing material.
I know from my own experience that they frequently visit our site directly, so they must have some record of the URL at least.
