The request was successful.
From: Mr Marler
13 December 2011
Dear Durham University,
For each of the student bars the university is responsible for,
please let me know:
a) How many jukeboxes and games/arcade machines they have.
b) Under what agreement the machines are in the bar (owned by bar,
rented for a fixed amount, or rented for a share of the takings).
c) How much the machines are rented for.
d) How much takings are taken from the machines. If this is not
possible, how many times the machines are used.
e) What the profits are spent on or will be spent on.
I am interested in the latest year-period available.
Yours faithfully,
Mr Marler

Dear Chris Gray,
Thank you for the information so far. It is incredibly helpful and
allows me to start evaluating the information.
I have a few questions of clarification, and it seems to make sense
to bring these up with the data provided so far. Lack of
clarification in my questions is probably partially to blame.
1) With the share agreements, does the bar take the first
number(e.g. 65% for Grey), or the second number(e.g. 35% for Grey)?
I notice Collingwood has quite a different share, could you confirm
if that is a big difference in contract or whether the shares are
the other way around.
2) The agreement given for St Hild & St Bede is "£100% to
supplier". Could you clarify if that is 100% to the supplier, or
£100 and for what time period.
3) Are the takings the total emptied from the machine, or the
amount taken that the bar gets based on their share?
4) I am quite familiar with the 2 bars of Cuth's, and so they have
an additional jukebox (totalling 1 of each machine type in each
bar). I may be jumping ahead, and information for the other jukebox
will be provided along with the other bars data, if not could you
please see why it has not been provided.
Once again, thank you for your response. I will look forward to the
remaining information when it becomes available.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Marler

Dear Mr Marler
Please find below responses to your request for clarification received on
27^th January 2012.
1) With the share agreements, does the bar take the first number(e.g. 65%
for Grey), or the second number(e.g. 35% for Grey)? I notice Collingwood
has quite a different share, could you confirm if that is a big difference
in contract or whether the shares are the other way around.
In all cases where there is a percentage split, the colleges receive the
lower percentage.
2) The agreement given for St Hild & St Bede is "£100% to supplier".
Could you clarify if that is 100% to the supplier, or £100 and for what
time period.
The supplier receives 100% of the takings.
3) Are the takings the total emptied from the machine, or the amount
taken that the bar gets based on their share?
The takings are the colleges’ split, apart from St Hilds and St Bedes
where the takings all go to the supplier.
4) I am quite familiar with the 2 bars of Cuth's, and so they have an
additional jukebox (totalling 1 of each machine type in each bar). I may
be jumping ahead, and information for the other jukebox will be provided
along with the other bars data, if not could you please see why it has
not been provided.
I confirm that there are 2 jukeboxes in St Cuthberts. The takings total
remains unchanged.
