Bank of England Independence

Glenn Fleetwood made this Freedom of Information request to Her Majesty’s Treasury

The request was successful.

From: Glenn Fleetwood

20 January 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please could you tell me who set the interest rates pre-1997, and
why it was deemed necessary to give this power to the Bank of
England?

What other things did the Bank of England acquire by gaining
independence, and how did it gain independence(what bills were
passed etc. and by whom, and why)?

Yours faithfully,

Glenn Fleetwood
